On Friday Sen. Nancy Binay reminded Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, that the dolomite project for Manila Bay was intended to clean the water but not to turn it into an artificial beach during their hearing in the Senate on the DENR’s proposed P25.5-billion budget for 2021.

The Senator was referring to the Supreme Court’s 2008 ruling that directed 13 government agencies to clean up Manila Bay.

Binay highlighted that the money was supposed to be used in order to rehabilitate the Manila Bay the fact that they now are limited in funds.

Sen. Cynthia Villar, the authorized person over the budget hearing said for Cimatu to reach out with Maynilad and Manila water to put progress of water treatment facilities to help restore Manila Bay.

In line with this Sen. Imee Marcos questioned the Department of Environment and Natural Resources the reason behind the pause of dumping the dolomite if it was said that the crushed mineral was safe as claimed.

Marcos also brought up how the artificial sand was washed out during hard rain falls in Metro Manila.
