Cebu City is not running out of candidates as eight contenders are vying for the mayoralty post in a bid to replace Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is no longer seeking reelection.

Leading the pack is Cebu City Acting City Mayor Michael Rama of Barug PDP-Laban, former City Councilor and former First Lady Margot Osmeña of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), and incumbent City Councilor Dave Tumulak, who is running as an independent candidate.

Newcomers and independent candidates, businessman-whistle blower Crisologo Saavedra, Edgar Concha, and Juanito Luna filed their certificate of candidacy vying for the city’s top post, as well as Jose Layon of Reporma Party, and Michael Matañoza of Abag-PROMDI.

Meanwhile, the vice mayoralty post in the city has three contenders.

They are Association of Barangay Councils-Cebu City Chapter President and City Councilor Franklin Ong of BOPK, City Councilor Raymond Garcia of Barug-PDP-Laban and former City Administrator and urban poor leader Bimbo Fernandez of Liberal Party. (By: April Therese Tan)
