The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region X reported that most of the region’s major hotels and resorts are fully booked for Holy Week.
According to DOT X Director Marie Elaine Unchuan, the island province of Camiguin has the most reservations for the first week of April because it will host the annual “Panaad,” in which Catholics visit churches and pray during the Way of the Cross.
Unchuan added that the influx of visitors is expected in Camiguin because it coincides with the launch of the province’s tourism slogan, “Isle Be There,” as well as the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions.
She also disclosed that this year’s rendition of the annual “Hinuklog” Lenten presentation in the town of Medina, Misamis Oriental, will not take place because of limitations imposed by the local government.
Hinuklog is a street performance in which residents of Medina dress up in costumes and reenact the final days of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion and resurrection.
In other news, DOT X, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, will hold a job fair beginning tomorrow, March 30, until Friday, March 31, where at least 2,000 jobs in the tourism sector will be offered to interested applicants.
