Sinabi ni Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ngayong araw sa kanyang pagbisita sa Tarlac na kailangang babaan ng gobyerno ang buwis sa kuryente at gasolina upang makapagbigay luwag sa bulsa ng mga ordinaryong Pilipino, partikular para sa mga magsasaka, mangingisda, at sa mga tsuper at operator sa pampublikong sektor ng transportasyon.
Binigyang-diin ito ni Moreno sa isang pagpupulong na ginanap sa Barangay Banaba, Tarlac kung saan nakipagpulong ang alkalde sa mahigit 100 na magsasaka at agricultural workers upang mapakinggan ang kanilang mga hinaing at suhestiyon sa kung papaano mapapataas ang kanilang kita at produksyon.
Nangako ang presidential aspirant na bababaan niya ng 50% ang buwis sa petrolyo at kuryente na mapapakinabangan hindi lamang ng mga mahihirap kundi pati na rin ng mga nasa ‘middle class’.
“To cushion the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, a 50-percent reduction in fuel excise tax can lower the power generation cost and another 50-percent cut on taxes on electricity would mean savings for the majority of our people, many of whom are jobless now due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” ani Moreno.
Ayon kay Moreno, agad na mararamdaman ng mga tsuper at operator ang positibong epekto ng pagbaba ng buwis sa petrolyo na malaking ginhawa rin para sa mga mananakay dahil sa pagbaba ng pamasahe.
“If we implement a tax cut on gasoline and petroleum products, we can expect more jeepneys plying their routes and they will earn more since there will be more commuters who are going to their places of work. When drivers earn more, they will have more buying power and this will further perk up the economy,” paliwanag ni Moreno.
“We cannot bring down the cost of power generation but the end-users or the consumers, can be made to pay lower electricity bills. How? Bawasan natin ang buwis sa
kuryente ng 50 porsyento. Mababawasan ang kita ng gobyerno pero ang tao ang panalo dahil sa malaking pera na kanilang matitipid,” dagdag pa niya.
Ayon pa sa Alkalde, ang patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina, diesel, at kerosene ay nagudyok sa mga transport groups at sa sektor ng pampublikong transportasyon na humiling ng “fare hike” o taas pasahe.
“The income of farmers and fishermen will definitely be affected by the fuel price hikes. Farmers use crude oil in their farm tractors, kuliglig and motors that are used for irrigation. Even their fertilizers and pesticides are by-products of petroleum. Fishermen will also have to reduce their fishing trip because of high fuel prices,” wika ni Moreno.
Noong ika-19 ng Oktubre, nagtaas ng P1.80/litro ang presyo ng gasolina, P1.50/litro naman sa presyo ng diesel, at P1.30/litro naman sa kerosene. Dinala nito ang kasalukuyang presyo ng unleaded gasoline sa P70.44/litro at P50.17 kada litro naman ng diesel sa Metro Manila.
Ayon sa mga Ekonomista, maaaring magkaroon ng pagtaas sa presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin na aabot sa 6% sa buwan ng Nobyembre.
“With the winter months coming, demand for oil is expected to increase until February, add to the unstable world market. This is only a moratorium on taxes, called for by the situation. Government should adjust to the public’s dire hardships,” saad ni Moreno.
