The Mangacop family, through their legal counsel Atty. Gibb Andrew Cabahug, confirmed today, July 22, that they will be filing a motion for reconsideration at the Office of the City Prosecutor (OCP).

This comes after the OCP downgraded the charges against Dr. Marvin Rey Andrew Pepino from murder to homicide on Wednesday, July 20.

Pepino has also posted bail for homicide and violation of Section 31 of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act yesterday, July 21, which was coincidentally the day of his 32nd birthday.

Atty. Cabahug also confirmed that the OCP has filed a motion before the Regional Trial Court Branch 17 for the issuance of a precautionary hold departure order against Pepino yesterday.

The family is optimistic that there is justice in the judicial process, and that the recent turn of events were just a minor setback in their quest to obtain justice for Amierkhan’s death.

They also hope that Amierkhan, who would have turned 20 on July 23, will have his “birthday” gift like how the suspect received it the day before his birthday.

Meanwhile, OCP has yet to release their official statement regarding the matter.
