Legazpi City—Senator Grace Poe expressed sadness following the sudden demise of former President Fidel V. Ramos on Sunday July 31, 2022.

“With the Filipino people, we mourn the passing of a steadfast leader and democracy icon,” she said in a statement.

The former president succumbed to Covid-19.

“His resolute vision paved the way for real economic gains that brought the Philippines to a rising tiger status. The occasions I met with former President FVR left indelible lessons on being a firm and dedicated public servant,” she said.

Former Albay governor Al Francis Bichara was also saddened by Ramos’ passing.

“My family and I send our deepest condolences to the Ramos family, to his loved ones and friends in this difficult time. Rest in Peace former President Fidel V. Ramos.Thank you for your service, Mr. President,” Bichara said.

Ramos left a significant footprint in Bicol development specifically in Albay province for pushing and declaring Cagraray Island as the ecotourism in Bicol that hindered the investors to extract the towering limestones in Cagraray Island, Bacacay town.

Cagraray Island in Bacacay town is one of FVR’s favorite dive sites in Bicol where the sunken galleon is located and go kayaking over the world-renowned Sula channel, rich for biodiversity and corals. (Raydes B. Barcia)
