MANILA, Philippines – On Monday, February 6, the younger brother of Valencia Municipality Mayor in Negros Oriental was found dead.

Don Paulo Zartega Teves, Mayor Edgar Teves Jr.’s brother, was identified by the police after his dead body – wrapped in a blanket and a plastic bag, was found in Barangay Calayugan at past 8 a.m., according to the police report.

The victim also sustained a gunshot wound to his head.

Former governor Pryde Henry Teves, victim’s cousin, also immediately called on police through a statement, to expedite the investigation into the incident.

“If it can happen to someone in our family, it can happen to anybody,” the Negros Oriental ex-governor said.

The authorities have yet to identify the motive of the said crime but they confirmed that Teves has neither connection to government nor to local politics, or even to military, police, and New People’s Army (NPA).

According to acting provincial police director Col. Reynaldo Lizardo, a Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives (SOCO) team was working on the said investigation.

“I have given them instructions to dig deeper into the case, gather all vital information surrounding his death, and check security camera videos within a 500-meter radius at the place of discovery,” he said in Filipino and English language.

The investigation is still ongoing.
