The Department of Education (DepEd) has initiated a comprehensive training program for teachers specializing in English, Science, and Math (ESM) to enhance the quality of junior high school education and improve student academic outcomes.

According to DepEd Memorandum No. 2 s. 2025, the initiative includes training for teachers and interactive learning sessions for students and their parents to foster a supportive academic environment.

Key Training Schedule

  • Teacher Training: January 3 to January 15
  • Student and Parent Activities: January 16 to March 10

The initiative is a collaboration with Khan Academy and Frontlearners. It begins with preparing regional ESM supervisors to design their classes using Khan Academy’s platform, enabling ESM teachers to create accounts and participate in training.

An online examination for all ESM teachers is scheduled for January 7. Following the assessment, school division superintendents will appoint teacher-trainers to lead learning and socio-emotional sessions in their respective areas.

Additional Training Highlights

  • Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL): DepEd’s Curriculum and Teaching Strand will distribute SEL guides to field offices starting January 10. These resources will aid in training ESM teacher-trainers from January 13 to 15.
  • Student Learning Sessions: From January 16, students will receive guidance on using DepEd’s Learning Management System, Khan Academy, and Frontlearners platforms. Activities will include assessments, coaching, and SEL sessions.

Improving Global Competitiveness

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the importance of these efforts in aligning with international education standards.

“We are equipping our teachers with cutting-edge tools and strategies to provide world-class instruction in English, Science, and Math. By empowering our educators, we are not only enhancing classroom learning but also preparing our learners to excel academically and meet the challenges of an ever-evolving world,” Angara said.

This initiative highlights DepEd’s commitment to empowering educators and fostering student success in key academic disciplines.
