Astronomical enthusiasts in the Philippines are in for a treat as four planets—Venus, Neptune, Saturn, and Mars—will align in the early morning sky on April 4, as announced by PAGASA. While Venus, Saturn, and Mars will be visible to the naked eye, Neptune will require a telescope or high-powered binoculars for observation. This alignment offers a rare opportunity to witness the planets gather on one side of the sun, providing a breathtaking view of the celestial dance.

In addition to the planetary alignment, April will feature two meteor showers: the Lyrid Meteor Shower and the Pi Puppids. The Lyrids, active from April 14 to April 30, promise up to 18 meteors per hour at peak times before dawn, particularly on April 22. The Pi Puppids, visible from April 15 to April 28, will have their peak display around 8:00 p.m. on April 23, though the waxing gibbous moon may impact visibility.

For those interested in comets, the periodic comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is expected to reach its brightest point on April 21. While challenging to observe due to its proximity to the sun, it can be viewed with binoculars or a small telescope.

April also offers other celestial events, including conjunctions and close approaches of the Moon with Mars and Saturn, as well as the Moon reaching its perigee and apogee. These events underscore the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the night sky, providing multiple opportunities for skywatchers to marvel at the wonders of the universe.
