
SABLAYAN, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO — Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested two men and confiscated nearly P2.8 million worth of petroleum products and equipment in a recent crackdown on illegal fuel trading in Sablayan.
The operation, part of the PNP’s “Oplan Ligas,” targeted unauthorized fuel distribution in Barangay Sto. Niño, according to a report released on Sunday evening, February 8, 2026.
Details of the Operation Operatives from the CIDG Occidental Mindoro Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Sablayan Municipal Police, conducted the raid in an area known for unstable cellular signals.
- The Arrest: Two suspects were caught in the act of trading and distributing petroleum products without the necessary authority from the Department of Energy (DOE).
- The Seizure: Authorities confiscated a 10-wheeler tanker truck containing approximately 16,000 liters of premium gasoline.
- Total Value: The PNP estimated the total value of the seized items at P2,793,000, which includes the truck (valued at P2 million) and the fuel (valued at P768,000).
Legal Violations The suspects are facing charges for violating Batas Pambansa Blg. 33, as amended by Presidential Decree No. 1865, which regulates the illegal trading and hoarding of petroleum products. The suspects are currently in the custody of the CIDG Occidental Mindoro unit for documentation and formal filing of charges.
Safety and Economic Impact PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that illegal fuel trading is not just an economic crime but a significant public safety hazard.
