The Department of Agriculture (DA) will expand its ₱20-per-kilo subsidized rice program to Clark Freeport and Special Economic Zone starting December 1. This rollout is expected to benefit more than 150,000 workers in the area through Kadiwa ng Pangulo outlets.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. described the expansion as part of the “Zero-Kilometer Food System,” aiming to reduce transport costs, provide farmers better returns, and ensure fresher food reaches consumers.

Clark Development Corporation (CDC) President Agnes Devanadera welcomed the program, noting that it will bring “dignity and stability” to workers by making rice more affordable.

Why It Matters:

  • The expansion serves a densely populated and economically significant area, increasing access to subsidized rice.
  • It reinforces efforts to build a sustainable food network and support both farmers and workers.
  • Lower rice prices for Clark workers can ease the cost of living and improve welfare in the economic zone.
