A devastating fire broke out late Wednesday night in Barangay 7, Pasay City, destroying at least 40 homes and displacing dozens of residents.

According to a report from 24 Oras, the blaze started around 11 p.m. along San Juan Street. Carmela Cabasa, one of the residents, shared her harrowing experience: “I was sleeping when I felt heat. When I went downstairs, the flames were already huge. I managed to save my sleeping grandchild, but I lost everything—even her milk.”

The Bureau of Fire Protection raised a second alarm, with about 90 fire trucks responding. The fire was declared under control by 1:11 a.m. Thursday.

Fire Superintendent Mariano Taguiam explained that light construction materials fueled the flames, which even spread to a nearby high-rise building, damaging the seventh-floor balcony.

While no injuries were reported, several parked cars were damaged by falling debris. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and total damage.

Pasay City’s local government has opened evacuation centers and is providing relief aid to affected families.
