Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island continues to show signs of volcanic unrest, with recent observations reporting multiple ash emissions and increased seismic activity, including volcanic earthquakes. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has noted these elevated activities in its latest bulletins, although the volcano remains at Alert Level 2 — a status indicating increased unrest.

The ash emissions have produced grayish plumes rising from the crater, prompting warnings for nearby communities about the possibility of ashfall. In addition, numerous volcano‑tectonic earthquakes — caused by rock fracturing beneath the volcano — were recorded, pointing to ongoing magma movement or internal pressure changes deep within the volcanic system.

  • Safety Precautions: Even at Alert Level 2, residents and visitors are advised to stay away from restricted zones around the volcano’s summit and follow guidance from local authorities.
  • Ashfall Risks: Volcanic ash can affect air quality, visibility, and respiratory health, as well as disrupt transportation and agriculture in surrounding towns.
  • Monitoring Continues: PHIVOLCS and disaster response agencies remain vigilant, ready to escalate warnings if activity increases further.
