TBOLI, South Cotabato – The mystical and scenic Lake Holon, a beloved trekking destination in the Allah Valley Protected Landscape, will temporarily close to visitors starting January 3, 2026, for its annual two-month respite. This marks the 12th consecutive year of the seasonal shutdown, allowing the lake’s ecosystem to regenerate and recover from human activity.
Councilor Kirk Tuan, chairperson of the Sangguniang Bayan’s tourism committee, explained: “This closure gives the ecosystem sufficient time to breathe, regenerate, and recover… ensuring long-term sustainability for future generations.” The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12) supports the measure as vital for biodiversity preservation, water quality, and cultural heritage.
The closure—pursuant to Municipal Executive Order No. 63, Series of 2025—typically lasts until early March, though exact reopening dates are announced later. Lake Holon, nestled at 1,400 meters elevation, draws trekkers for its turquoise waters, surrounding mossy forests, and T’boli cultural significance.
Plan your visits accordingly—nature’s rest ensures its beauty endures!
