First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos has officially joined the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), receiving an honorary rank of Vice Admiral. The ceremony, held on Tuesday, was conducted by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and PCG Commander Admiral Ronnie Gavan.

The event saw the attendance of the Presidential son, William Vincent Marcos. PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo reported that the First Lady expressed her gratitude to the PCG for its role in safeguarding the West Philippine Sea.

Balilo emphasized that Araneta-Marcos joined the PCGA to inspire its members as they fulfill their duties to the nation. The PCG Auxiliary is dedicated to promoting maritime safety and protecting the marine environment.

Admiral Gavan noted that the First Lady’s involvement could serve as a significant “reinforcement,” with her presence embodying strength and compassion. He highlighted her recent participation in the rehabilitation of the Pasig River, aligning with the PCG’s mission to preserve the country’s rivers and seas.

“Like the Philippine Coast Guard, the First Lady embodies the highest ideals of service, dedication, and patriotism, and does so with unmatched grace and sophistication,” Gavan stated.
