The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s licenses of an SUV driver and a motorcycle rider involved in a heated road rage incident that escalated into a shooting on Marcos Highway in Antipolo City.
In a statement on Monday, the LTO announced that both individuals’ licenses will be suspended for 90 days while the investigation is ongoing. Their vehicles—a motorcycle and an SUV—were also placed under alarm status.
The LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division is working to uncover what triggered the violent encounter, which resulted in multiple injuries and the death of one rider.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the outcome of the investigation could lead to more serious penalties, including permanent revocation of driving privileges. “It’s disheartening that such incidents still happen—where people resort to violence over situations that could have been de-escalated,” he said.
Mendoza urged motorists to remain calm and responsible on the road, warning that road rage has already ruined too many lives. “Let’s always remember we have families counting on us to return home safely,” he added.
The altercation occurred Sunday afternoon when the SUV, driven by 28-year-old businessman Ken, allegedly cut off a group of riders, nearly causing a collision. A confrontation followed, which quickly escalated into a physical fight and ended in gunfire.
Ken claimed he was being harassed and feared one of the riders was reaching for a gun, prompting him to retrieve his firearm from the car. However, a rider’s son disputed this, saying the suspect initiated the violence and drove recklessly.
One of the injured riders later died in the hospital, and the suspect now faces possible charges of murder and multiple counts of frustrated murder.
