Actress and comedian Rufa Mae Quinto was released from detention on Thursday after posting bail for 14 counts of violations under Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code.
Quinto posted a total bail of ₱1.7 million, with each count set at ₱126,000, before the Pasay RTC Branch 111. Appearing in court, she pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against her by investors of the skincare company Dermacare.
Quinto, escorted by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) International Airport Division operatives, had surrendered to authorities upon her return from the United States on Wednesday.
Quinto’s Statement
While leaving the court, Quinto quipped to reporters, “Go, go, go home na ako,” maintaining her humor despite the circumstances.
In earlier interviews, Quinto clarified her role in the controversy, asserting that she was merely tapped as an endorser for Dermacare and had no involvement in soliciting investments.
“Wala naman akong kinalaman sa kanila. Hindi ko naman sila na-meet, or nakilala. Ako din, hindi rin nabayaran. Nag-bounce lahat ng cheke,” she stated. Quinto added that she worked with the company for just three months before being let go due to payment issues.
She called on the complainants to focus their efforts on pursuing the actual owners of Dermacare, stating, “Sana ‘yung mga biktima, hanapin n’yo ‘yung may-ari… Kailangang malinaw na hindi lang ako, kundi pati ang may-ari ang dapat habulin.“
Updates on Co-Accused
Actress Neri Naig-Miranda, Quinto’s co-accused, also appeared before the court but did not respond to reporters’ questions. Her arraignment was postponed due to unresolved motions.
Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said the syndicated estafa case against Naig-Miranda would be brought before the Department of Justice.
Dermacare’s Response Pending
Efforts to reach Dermacare for a statement remain ongoing. Updates will follow once a response is received.
