BANGKOK, Thailand – The Philippine delegation concluded the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on a high note, securing 6th place in the overall medal standings with a total of 58 gold, 77 silver, and 105 bronze medals (240 total). The Games, hosted by Thailand from December 9-20, 2025, saw Team Philippines exceed initial expectations despite stiff competition and eligibility challenges in key sports.

The standout performers delivered historic moments:

  • Basketball: Double gold sweep (men’s and women’s 5×5)—first since 2019.
  • Athletics: Multiple golds, including EJ Obiena’s pole vault repeat and young stars in 800m.
  • Gymnastics & Tennis: Breakthrough golds from Jasmine Ramilo and Alex Eala.
  • Boxing: Eumir Marcial’s lone gold salvaging the campaign.
  • Fencing & Shooting: Consistent podium finishes.

Thailand dominated as hosts with over 100 golds, followed by Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The Philippines’ haul—up from 2023’s 7th place—reflects depth in combat sports, gymnastics, and team events, though traditional strengths like billiards and dancesport yielded fewer top medals.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino praised the athletes: “Sixth place is commendable—we fought hard against hosts and powerhouses. These medals inspire our Paris 2028 and LA 2028 preparations.”

As the flame extinguishes, Team PH returns with pride: 58 golds forged in grit, a foundation for future glory.
