Veteran broadcaster Arnold Clavio has opened up about his determination to return to work just two months after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke in June. Despite being advised to undergo six months of rehabilitation, Clavio resumed his role on Unang Hirit by August.
In a report by Nelson Canlas on 24 Oras, Clavio shared that he believed going back to work would aid in his recovery.
“Ginawa kong three months lang. Tinawagan ko sila, gusto ko nang bumalik. Ta’s August, June nangyari ‘to, August. Parang iba ‘yung itutulong niyang energy sa akin para bumalik ‘yung dating ako,” he explained.
Recovery Journey
Though back on-air, Clavio admitted he is still in the process of recovery.
“Talagang may problem ako sa mga steps, mga stairs kaya lagi akong dikit sa wall,” he shared, acknowledging the challenges he continues to face in regaining full mobility.
Clavio underwent physical therapy to rebuild his strength and restore his motor functions.
Understanding Hemorrhagic Stroke
A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts or leaks, causing internal bleeding. It can be triggered by a head injury or a weakened artery wall. Rehabilitation typically includes physical therapy to improve strength and coordination.
Celebrating a Milestone
As Clavio continues his recovery, Unang Hirit, the Philippines’ longest-running morning show, is gearing up to celebrate its 25th anniversary in December. The program airs weekdays at 5:30 a.m. and features a roster of co-hosts, including Lyn Ching, Susan Enriquez, Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Shaira Diaz, and more.
Clavio’s resilience serves as an inspiration to his viewers and colleagues, as he balances his health challenges with his dedication to broadcasting.
