Chelsea Manalo has made the Philippines proud by winning the National Costume Award at Miss Universe 2024.
The announcement was made Saturday, accompanied by a video compilation of the Top 3 entries for the award. Manalo’s stunning costume earned her the top spot, followed by Chile’s Emilia Dides in second place and Vietnam’s Kỳ Duyên Nguyễn in third.
A Celebration of Filipino Heritage
Manalo’s costume, titled “Hiraya,” was a masterpiece designed by Manny Halasan. It paid tribute to the Philippines’ rich religious and cultural history, featuring elements of Islamic art, the traditional Puni craft from Bulacan, and an image of Our Lady of Antipolo, also known as Our Lady of Good Voyage.
The ensemble was further accentuated by a beaded boat headpiece symbolizing the Galleon Trade, which introduced international commerce between Manila and Mexico.
Overwhelming Gratitude
Following her win, Chelsea expressed her joy with the hashtag #PanaloSiManalo on social media. Manny Halasan also shared his excitement, posting, “OMG Best in National Costume. Thank you Lord!!!!!!! Congratulations Chelsea Manalo.”
The official Miss Universe Philippines page extended its gratitude to everyone who voted to secure the win, stating, “Thank you to all those who voted to help the Philippines win 1st place!”
A Legacy of Excellence
This marks the second consecutive year the Philippines has won the Best National Costume award, with Michelle Dee achieving the same honor in 2023.
Chelsea concluded her Miss Universe 2024 journey as part of the Top 30 and was later crowned Miss Universe Asia, adding another accolade to her name.
