Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation from the Cabinet was bound to happen after her family criticized President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and she remained silent on several key issues, according to Senate President Francis Escudero.

“I believe her resignation was inevitable from the time her father, FPRRD, and her siblings and allies started attacking PBBM and members of the First Family,” Escudero stated. He also noted that her silence on issues such as the West Philippine Sea, the Bagong Pilipinas Hymn, and the Quiboloy cases made her resignation more foreseeable.

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III emphasized the need for President Marcos to appoint a new education secretary who has dedicated their life to the education sector and has a proven track record. “This person must be someone who has worked with or in the department for decades, someone familiar with how the department works as well as with the problems of the education sector and educational system,” Pimentel said.

Escudero acknowledged that Vice President Duterte had the right to have policy differences with the President, adding that people appreciate her for standing up for her beliefs.
