The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Davao de Oro unanimously passed Resolution Number 1813-2022 which places the entire province under the State of Calamity due to the devastating damage brought by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) on its sixth special session Friday.

On Wednesday, April 6, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) led by Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy passed PDRRMC Resolution Number 09 series of 2022, entitled: “A Resolution Recommending the Declaration of a State of Calamity in the Province of Davao De Oro Due to the Low Pressure Area (LPA) Affecting the Province and Endorsing the Same to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for Appropriate Action.”

The said resolution was formally received by the provincial board Thursday, April 7.

During the special session, PDRRM Officer Joseph Randy M. Loy, LDRRMO IV Glenn Francis R. Marte, and Provincial Engineer Roderick M. Digamon presented updates regarding the effects of the LPA through their Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA).

According to their data, more than 3,000 families or 5,000 individuals were affected in the entire province.

As per their assessment, Compostela, Montevista, Mawab, New Bataan, Maragusan, Maco, Monkayo, and the capital municipality Nabunturan were the most affected municipalities in the province which experienced landslides and floods reaching beyond average human height.

Loy also bared that they will immediately conduct a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment in these towns to further identify priority areas for rehabilitation of infrastructures and communities ravaged by the weather disturbance.

Three bridges that collapsed due to the gushing of floodwater are just some of the structural damages caused by the LPA. These bridges are located at: Purok 1, Barangay Fatima, New Bataan; Purok 8, Barangay Malinawon, Mawab; and Galinan River, Mawab.
