Dr. Roy Basa, a dedicated Filipino educator, has been named Teacher of the Year in New Mexico, USA, and was recently honored at the White House.

Dr. Basa, who began his career in his hometown of Murcia, Negros Occidental, was recognized for his exemplary work as a technical education and science instructor at Twin Buttes Cyber Academy. His innovative teaching methods, which emphasize collaboration with local, state, and national institutions and industries, have led to remarkable student achievements.
On May 2, 2024, Dr. Basa and 54 other State Teachers of the Year were invited to the White House, where they attended a dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

Basa’s dedication has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2024 Award for Continuing Excellence and Service from the Metrobank Foundation in the Philippines, the 2023 and 2024 SHELL Urban Science Educator Development Award from the National Science Teaching Association, USA, and the 2023 Outstanding Science Educator Award from the New Mexico Academy of Science.
