Hasna Cabral, a former housemate on “Pinoy Big Brother: Otso,” has publicly shared the profound impact her children, Basha and Baste, both of whom are diagnosed with autism, have on her life. Speaking at the Star Magic’s “MAMAmagical” event, Cabral, a single mother, expressed how her children serve as her greatest source of strength and inspiration.
In 2018, Cabral captivated audiences with her heartfelt stories about raising her children alone. Her daughter Basha is diagnosed with intellectual disability, which affects her ability to process information and perform daily activities, while her son Baste has a global developmental delay that impacted his early development. Despite these challenges, Cabral’s journey is one of resilience and unconditional love.
During the event, Cabral, with her arm affectionately around her daughter, spoke candidly about the unique challenges and rewards of being a mother to children with special needs. “My kids are my source of strength. Some people would say they would wish for a different life, but no. For me, they are the summer that brought the flowers in me,” she shared with reporters.
The former reality TV star emphasized the joy of witnessing her children’s progress, stating, “The best part of being a mom is seeing them progress—especially as an autism mom like me. Seeing [them] grow and seeing [them] interact is a definition of my success.” This sentiment reflects the deep bond and mutual growth that define their family life.
Cabral also highlighted the importance of support systems in managing the complexities of raising children with autism. She acknowledged the invaluable help she receives from her family and the educators who work with her children. “I’m not a supermom alone. The credit has to be given to the right people: when I go to work, she has her lola,” she explained, underlining that her achievements and strength are bolstered by the community around her.
In addition to her parenting role, Cabral has continued to pursue her acting career, appearing in Kapamilya shows such as “Darna,” “La Vida Lena,” and “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.” Her favorite pastime, she humorously notes, is watching anything except her own shows with her children.
