Dina Bonnevie, a respected figure in Philippine entertainment, recently shared a deeply personal account of her journey towards forgiveness and healing during an appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” The actress opened up about overcoming bitterness following her separation from her ex-husband, Vic Sotto, and how she managed to forgive him and Coney Reyes, Sotto’s subsequent partner.

Bonnevie’s process of healing was not quick or easy. It spanned years and was profoundly influenced by her daughter, Danica Sotto, who played a crucial role in her emotional journey. “It took a lot of time, until the point where Danica was telling me, ‘Alam mo Mommy, you’re so bitter. I wish you would really let go, because you are so bitter,'” Bonnevie recounted. This honest observation from her daughter was a pivotal moment that spurred her to seek closure and peace.

The turning point in Bonnevie’s journey came when Reyes invited her to their church. This gesture opened up a new perspective for Bonnevie, helping her see Reyes’s positive changes and her efforts to lead a life centered around faith and spirituality. “Nakita ko na, she changed in leaps and bounds, like bringing people to God, bringing people to Jesus, and telling people about the good news of salvation,” Bonnevie reflected. This realization made it difficult for her to maintain any feelings of animosity.

The act of forgiveness became a liberating milestone for Bonnevie. She symbolically expressed her newfound peace by giving Reyes a bunch of white roses and extending forgiveness to Vic Sotto as well. “I forgave her; I forgave Vic; I also sent him flowers; and I said, ‘I forgive you.’ But most of all, I forgave me,” she shared. This cathartic moment was about more than forgiving others—it was also about forgiving herself and letting go of the past hurts that had weighed on her for years.

Bonnevie described a poignant scene where she physically manifested her intention to move forward: “I went to the beach one time with the kids, and I imagined myself throwing all my tears into the sea, all my sama ng loob, draining it out. ‘I’m letting you go. I want a fresh start, a new me,” she recounted. This act was symbolic of her desire to cleanse her spirit and embrace a new beginning.

Dina Bonnevie’s story is one of emotional resilience and the power of forgiveness. Her experience highlights how personal growth often requires us to confront our deepest pains and work through them with grace and courage. Her narrative is an inspiration to anyone facing similar challenges, proving that it is possible to find peace and start anew, no matter how deep the wounds may be.
