Award-winning actor John Arcilla shared a thought-provoking perspective on celebrities entering politics, echoing his iconic “Heneral Luna” persona.

During Monday’s episode of “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” John was asked about the growing trend of actors running for public office as many filed their candidacies for next year’s elections.

“Everyone has the right to run for office and serve, whether you’re an actor or not,” John said. “But the real question is, why are you entering politics? Is it to genuinely serve or simply to get rich because you lack income elsewhere?”

He emphasized that celebrities pursuing public service must deeply reflect on their intentions.

“Don’t lie to yourself. If it’s just for money, it’s already wrong. Politics or public office is meant for service. If you become wealthy in politics or government, then you’re not serving. You need to be clear about that,” he explained.

John advised actors to define their motives carefully, especially when the public tends to scrutinize their sincerity.

“Actor or not, especially if you’re a celebrity, make sure you’re genuinely there to serve. If not, don’t even bother pursuing it,” he added.

On the professional front, John Arcilla will soon portray the villain Julio Figueroa in the second season of “Lolong,” starring Ruru Madrid. The Venice International Film Festival Best Actor’s character is a powerful businessman with a secret underground fighting arena.

The series is set to premiere on GMA Prime in January 2025.
