CAMP CRAME, Philippines — Authorities are conducting a massive manhunt for 8 suspects and 12 persons of interest following the brutal hazing death of 19-year-old maritime student Kenneth Alcedo in Cavite.
Cavite police chief Col. Ariel Red confirmed that a total of 21 personalities have been linked to the incident. One suspect—the driver of the vehicle that brought Alcedo to the hospital—surrendered to police on Tuesday night and is now providing vital information.
- The “Hit-and-Run” Cover-up: On March 1, the surrendered suspect and two others brought Alcedo to a hospital in General Trias, claiming he was a victim of a hit-and-run. They fled immediately after turning him over; Alcedo was pronounced dead on arrival.
- Direct Participation: Investigators believe at least nine of the 21 individuals had direct involvement in the fatal hazing rites.
The medico-legal examination revealed the extreme violence Alcedo endured:
- Cause of Death: Severe blunt force trauma to the lower extremities.
- Injuries: A fractured jaw, extensive bruising on the nape and back, and swollen, severely bruised thighs.
- Torture: Investigators found chili seeds and fruits on the victim’s private parts, indicating a high degree of cruelty.
- PNTC Colleges: Alcedo’s school condemned the act “in the strongest terms,” stating they do not recognize any fraternities and will pursue maximum legal sanctions against those responsible.
- The Father’s Plea: Alcedo’s father, Jun, believes his son was “intimidated” or threatened into joining the group. “We don’t need money. We need justice,” he told reporters, vowing to fight the case despite potential settlement offers.
Police are currently tracking the remaining suspects through “hot pursuit” operations, as none were found at their registered addresses.
