North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to further develop nuclear forces, condemning the trilateral military cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea, which he claims is escalating regional tensions.
North Korea’s Response to Military Cooperation
During a visit to North Korea’s defense ministry to mark the founding day of its army, Kim criticized:
🚀 US deployments of nuclear assets
⚔️ Joint military drills with South Korea and Japan
🔴 Increased military cooperation in the region
“The DPRK does not want unnecessary tension, but will take sustained countermeasures to ensure regional military balance,” Kim stated, according to state media KCNA.
Support for Russia & Military Expansion
Kim reaffirmed North Korea’s support for Russia, vowing continued backing for Moscow’s war in Ukraine. Reports also suggest Pyongyang may send more troops to Russia, adding to an estimated 11,000 North Korean soldiers already deployed.
Meanwhile, North Korea continues weapons development, with recent tests of strategic cruise missiles and mass production of suicide drones.
Geopolitical Implications
This latest announcement follows a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, where concerns over North Korea’s nuclear program were discussed.
