House Minority Leader Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan is calling on six regional wage boards to act quickly and approve new minimum wage increases before the year ends. He argues that workers in these regions are struggling with a sustained rise in living costs, and prompt wage hikes would provide much-needed relief.
The six regions under pressure are: Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), MIMAROPA (Region IV‑B), Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
Libanan emphasized that any further delay will erode workers’ purchasing power week by week.
Why It Matters:
- Higher wages can help ease the burden on workers who are bearing the brunt of inflation.
- Prompt action by regional boards could revive household spending and boost demand in the economy.
- Wage hikes are not just about fairness — they’re now being framed as a key part of economic recovery.
