A low-pressure area (LPA) currently being monitored by weather authorities is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The LPA, which was last spotted east of Mindanao, has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone once it moves closer to the country. PAGASA said the system could bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over several parts of the Visayas and Mindanao in the coming days.
Once it intensifies into a tropical depression, the weather disturbance will be given the local name “Tomas.” PAGASA continues to advise the public, especially residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to stay alert for possible weather updates and warnings.
As the LPA moves toward the country, the weather bureau emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging local government units and communities to take precautionary measures against potential heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
