MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 6.2 earthquake rocks Davao de Oro on Tuesday afternoon, March 7, according to the initial report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The seismology office recorded the quake with a 34 kilometers depth around 2:02 p.m, based on their earthquake information.

Its epicenter is located 13 kilometers northwest of Marasugan town in the said province.

PHIVOLCS said that damage and aftershocks are expected.

  • Intensity V – Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
  • Intensity IV – City of Tagum, Davao del Norte

  • Intensity III – Davao City, Davao Del Sur; Malungon, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Intensity II – Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; Talakag, Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Magpet, Kidapawan City, Carmen, Banisilan, Cotabato; Abuyog, Leyte; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City, South Cotabato; Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
  • Intensity I – Kadingilan, Bukidnon; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte; Baybay and Dulag, Leyte; Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Norala, Suralla, Tantangan, Banga and General Santos City, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Columbio, Isulan and President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; Tandag, Surigao del Sur

Meanwhile, from the initially reported magnitude 6.2, the tremor was later on downgraded to magnitude 5.9, based on the information issued today at 2:51 p.m., where the epicenter is located 8 kilometers southeast of New Bataan town in Davao de Oro.
