MANILA, Philippines – An official from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) said in a public briefing that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) agencies already provided assistance to the families affected by the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Davao de Oro on Tuesday, March 7.

According to OCD Joint Information Center Head Diego Agustin Mariano, the NDRRMC agencies gave P6 million worth of assistance.

“Sa ngayon po ang buong NDRRMC agencies po ay nakapag-abot na po ng worth P6 million [of] assistance,” he said.

“Ito po ay composed of family food packs, tents, and treating kits,” Mariano added.

Over 2,900 families were affected ang injured 60 other individuals, according to the report of the OCD this Thursday. All these families received the aid from NDRRMC through the OCD.

Mariano said that the number of the families that are now in the evacuation centers is 1,800 families.

Earlier today, the NDRRMC called on the citizens to participate in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) at 2 p.m this Thursday.

“We call on everyone to join the drill once again as part of our effort to reinforce earthquake preparedness. Earthquakes can happen anytime without warning and sometimes they can be as devastating as what happened in Türkiye,” NDRRMC executive director Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said.
