Severe flooding brought on by heavy rains from the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) has impacted at least 192,000 individuals or 38,689 families in Maguindanao del Sur, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The agency reported that 890 people—comprising 178 families—are currently staying in evacuation centers. Meanwhile, over 191,000 others have sought temporary refuge in various alternative locations.
Floodwaters have inundated several barangays across the following municipalities:
- Datu Abdullah Sangki
- Shariff Aguak
- Datu Saudi Ampatuan
- Ampatuan
- Shariff Saydona Mustapha
- Datu Hoffer Ampatuan
- Mamasapano
- Datu Piang
- Sultan sa Barongis
- Datu Salibo
- Guindulungan
So far, three houses have been severely damaged, and two road segments along with one bridge were affected by the flooding.
As of May 14, Mindanao has been experiencing consistent cloudy weather, scattered rains, and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ—conditions that triggered flash floods in several towns across Maguindanao del Sur.
