The House Quad Committee will continue its investigation into former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, following allegations that she may have been involved in espionage activities for China. This comes after a report from Al Jazeera’s 101 East program linked Guo to She Zhijiang, a Chinese-Cambodian businessman currently detained in Thailand for his involvement in human trafficking and online scams, according to Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro.

The 101 East documentary, posted on September 26, features She claiming to have worked as a Chinese spy and possessing encrypted information that included communications with Guo. Guo has firmly denied any connections with She.

“We will look into the claims made by She, the self-confessed Chinese spy, regarding his alleged connection to Alice Guo. We must question how many individuals like her are currently within our government,” Luistro said.

Luistro emphasized the importance of investigating the transfer of land titles to Chinese nationals and their possible exploitation of late birth registration rules, as these issues are matters of national security.

While giving Guo the benefit of the doubt, Luistro expressed concerns over the similarities between Guo’s situation and She’s operations, which allegedly involve human trafficking and online scams linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

In a separate interview, QuadComm chairperson Ace Barbers confirmed that the investigation will continue after the filing of candidacies from October 1 to 8, with committee hearings expected to resume by late October.
