QUEZON CITY, Philippines — A routine traffic stop turned into a major drug and weapons bust on Tuesday evening, May 12, 2026, after police officers discovered illegal drugs and live ammunition hidden inside a motorcycle.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old “Ramil,” was apprehended by personnel from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 4 (Novaliches) along Quirino Highway.
The arrest occurred during a “Oplan Galugad” operation aimed at enhancing visibility and curbing street-level crime in the area.
- Initial Violation: Officers initially flagged down the rider for driving without a helmet and lacking a side mirror.
- Suspicious Behavior: Police reported that the suspect became visibly nervous and attempted to speed away when asked for his driver’s license and registration.
- The Search: Upon inspecting the motorcycle’s utility box (U-box), officers recovered:
- Three (3) heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride).
- Approximately 15 grams of the illegal drug with an estimated street value of ₱102,000.
- Five (5) live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.
- Various drug paraphernalia.
The suspect is currently detained at the QCPD Station 4 and faces multiple criminal charges under Philippine law:
- RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002): Specifically for Section 5 (Sale) and Section 11 (Possession) of illegal drugs.
- RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act): For the illegal possession of live ammunition.
- Traffic Violations: Citations for driving without protective gear and operating an improperly maintained vehicle.
QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan lauded the alertness of the patrolling officers, noting that proactive checkpoints continue to be an effective deterrent against “riding-in-tandem” criminals and drug couriers.
“This arrest proves that even simple traffic enforcement can lead to the removal of dangerous drugs and ammunition from our streets. We will not relent in our campaign to keep Quezon City safe and drug-free.” — Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan
Novaliches residents have noted an increased police presence in recent weeks due to the localized implementation of the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” (BIDA) program. The seized evidence has been turned over to the QCPD Forensic Unit for laboratory examination and safe keeping as the case proceeds to the Prosecutor’s Office.
