A security guard in Antipolo City, Rizal shot and killed his colleague for arriving 30 minutes late to work, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on 24 Oras Monday.
The victim was scheduled to relieve the suspect from his shift, and authorities noted this wasn’t the first time the victim had been tardy. “Our suspect was on duty the whole day. Initially, he said that his colleague has been late almost every day,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo, Antipolo City Police chief.
However, upon surrendering to the police at the warehouse where the incident occurred, the suspect claimed there was more to the story.
“We were reprimanded. It was out of anger, I did it also because he was threatening me and my family. I have no issue with him personally, but I didn’t want my family to be involved,” the suspect said while in detention, expressing remorse for his actions.
Authorities confiscated the suspect’s handgun, and he has been charged with homicide. Police are investigating the possibility of elevating the charge to murder depending on further findings.
