The Senate is now aiming to begin its long-awaited relocation to the New Senate Building (NSB) in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City by mid-2027, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano confirmed.

Cayetano, who chairs the Senate Committee on Accounts overseeing the project, initially hoped the move could start as early as the first quarter of 2027. However, due to construction complexities, procurement delays, and preparation logistics, the target has been adjusted.

“We’re playing it safe with a late 2027 timeline, but we want to avoid unnecessary costs, especially if the move extends into 2028,” Cayetano said Thursday.

The NSB was originally set for completion in 2021, but progress has been hindered by budget scrutiny and leadership transitions. The Senate currently rents office space at the GSIS Complex in Pasay City, which many lawmakers say no longer meets operational needs.

To ensure a smooth transition, Cayetano is reviewing the Senate’s lease agreement with GSIS to prevent any disruption in operations during the move.

Despite the delays, Cayetano emphasized the Senate remains focused on building a modern, high-quality, and cost-effective facility. “We’re committed to delivering the best building possible in terms of function and value,” he said.
