An 18-wheeler truck lost its brakes and collided with seven vehicles along Sumulong Highway in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City, on Saturday afternoon.

The truck, en route from Quezon to Manila, reportedly experienced brake failure while descending the steep and winding road.

“The driver attempted to brake as early as Metro View, but the brakes were no longer functioning,” a police officer explained.
“He crashed into all the vehicles beside him.”

Despite efforts to steer the truck toward the roadside to avoid hitting more cars, seven vehicles sustained significant damage.

No Fatalities or Serious Injuries

Fortunately, there were no fatalities or serious injuries reported. The truck driver’s assistant recounted their harrowing experience:

“My driver stayed calm, which prevented any deaths. I jumped out of the truck because I thought I might get seriously hurt.”

Aftermath and Warnings

Authorities have detained the truck driver, while the damaged vehicles were promptly cleared from the crash site. The truck itself was scheduled for towing later that evening.

Officials noted that the area’s sharp curves and steep slopes make it prone to accidents, urging motorists to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before traveling through the highway.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and safe driving, especially in areas with challenging road conditions.
