Tragedy struck in Batangas as two Russian scuba divers lost their lives while diving near Verde Island, the Philippine Coast Guard reported on Thursday.
According to a report from Unang Balita on GMA Integrated News, four Russian divers were exploring the waters around Pulong Bato when they were swept away by a powerful current.
Two of them managed to escape safely, but the other two went missing. Hours later, one of the missing divers was found and rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The second diver’s body was later recovered, with authorities noting that the victim had lost an arm in what is suspected to be a shark attack.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
