REAL, QUEZON – Authorities have confiscated 440 kilograms of fish believed to have been caught through illegal dynamite fishing in Barangay Ungos, Real, Quezon.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southern Tagalog District, the haul was found abandoned in 14 boxes following a tip from a concerned citizen. The operation was carried out by the Coast Guard Sub-Station Real, in coordination with the Coast Guard Intelligence Unit – Northern Quezon and the local Municipal Agriculture Office.

Upon inspection, officials confirmed the fish had been caught using explosives—an illegal method that causes long-term damage to marine ecosystems. The confiscated fish were turned over to the Municipal Agriculture Office for proper documentation and further action.

Dynamite fishing remains a serious environmental and legal issue in the Philippines, threatening marine biodiversity and livelihoods.
