MANILA, Philippines — A sixth member of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity has surrendered to authorities in connection with the fatal hazing of 19-year-old maritime student Mark Kenneth Alcedo, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The sixth suspect, a 19-year-old male, voluntarily turned himself over to Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga on Sunday. PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño stated during a briefing at Camp Crame that investigators are still determining the specific role of this individual in the initiation rites.
The police have currently narrowed down the list of direct participants to 15 suspects, with 9 still at large. To date, six have surrendered:
- Unnamed Suspect: The first to surrender, turned himself over to General Trias police last Tuesday.
- John Lee Tuliao (22): Surrendered in General Trias City.
- John Rey Torrecampo (19): Surrendered in General Trias City.
- Archie Rosil (21): Surrendered on Sunday.
- Kenneth Ompod (18): Surrendered on Sunday.
- Unnamed 19-year-old: The latest surrenderee from Dasmariñas City.
According to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Tuliao, Torrecampo, and the first surrenderee were the ones who allegedly brought Alcedo to the General Trias Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on March 1.
The hazing allegedly took place in an open field near a subdivision in Dasmariñas City. Alcedo and two other neophytes were subjected to the initiation. An autopsy revealed that Alcedo died of blunt force trauma to his lower extremities. Investigators also noted the presence of fruit and chili seeds on the victim’s groin and buttocks, indicating further physical abuse.
Cases for violation of Republic Act No. 11053 (Anti-Hazing Law) will be filed through “regular filing.” This means that while the suspects have surrendered, they may be released temporarily by the court until a formal warrant is issued. The Tau Gamma Phi organization has condemned the incident and urged all remaining implicated members to come forward.
