Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the rest of the season as he continues to recover from a lingering left knee injury, the team announced on Friday.
Following consultations with medical specialists, the Sixers confirmed that Embiid is “medically unable to play” and will focus on treatment and rehabilitation. The organization emphasized that it is working with experts to determine the best course of action for his long-term health and performance.
The 30-year-old reigning MVP has struggled with injuries, appearing in only 19 of the team’s 58 games this season. He is averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 44.4% from the field—below his career average of 50.1%.
Embiid’s latest setback follows a meniscus tear surgery in February 2024, limiting him to just 39 games last season. His knee issues flared up again last Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets, where he exited early after appearing to struggle with mobility.
With Embiid sidelined, the 76ers face a tough challenge as they push for playoff contention.
