TAWI-TAWI – Ninety passengers were safely rescued after a vessel encountered engine trouble while sailing near Languyan Island, Tawi-Tawi on June 12, according to the Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC).

The vessel had departed Pangutaran, Sulu, bound for Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi, when it became distressed due to engine failure. Responding swiftly, the Philippine Navy dispatched BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS176) to the vessel’s last reported position.

The Navy towed the motor launch to Chinese Pier in Bongao, securing it without further issues.

“This successful maritime rescue operation highlights the Philippine Navy’s steadfast commitment to protecting lives at sea and maintaining maritime safety in the Western Mindanao region,” the WMNC stated.
