In an inspiring environmental conservation effort, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) actively participated in releasing 167 Olive Ridley sea turtles in Barangay Puting Buhangin, San Juan, Batangas. This initiative was organized by the 512th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron, underlining the commitment to marine life protection and environmental sustainability. The Olive Ridley turtles, listed as ‘vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red List since 2007, represent a critical species requiring concerted conservation efforts.

The PCG’s involvement in this activity highlights the broader commitment to preserving marine ecosystems. As these turtles face numerous threats, such conservation efforts are vital for fostering sustainable marine environments. The Philippines, known for its rich marine biodiversity, was recognized as the 7th best snorkeling destination in the world in 2022, partly due to the presence of these magnificent sea turtles.

This event not only showcases the dedication of the PCG and the 512th Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron to environmental conservation but also emphasizes the importance of treating marine life as co-inhabitants of our ecosystems.
