Authorities have apprehended the suspect involved in the road rage shooting at the EDSA-Ayala Tunnel in Makati City, which resulted in the death of a motorist, according to Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.
“The shooter in the Makati road rage case has been arrested,” Abalos announced during a press conference on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The victim, driving a white multipurpose vehicle (MPV), crashed into the side of the tunnel and collided with several motorcyclists around 2 PM on Tuesday. Police reports indicate that the suspect was in a black vehicle and fired at the victim through the rear window of the MPV, fatally wounding them.
Arrest and Investigation
The suspect, identified as a businessman, was arrested in Pasig City on Wednesday morning and has no prior criminal record. Authorities recovered two firearms from the suspect, which will undergo ballistic examination. The suspect faces murder charges.
Witness Account
Before the incident, the two vehicles reportedly had a minor altercation on the road, as stated by a female passenger in the MPV. She, along with a child, were unharmed.
A rider who assisted the victim recounted, “I saw the woman holding the baby, asking for help. She said they came from BGC and had a road altercation. The black Mercedes-Benz was ascending Ayala, and suddenly there was a gunshot. She saw their driver struggling for life.”
Traffic Disruption
The incident caused significant traffic congestion as the crime scene was processed and vehicles were temporarily barred from passing through the tunnel.
