Maita Sanchez, actress and wife of former Laguna Governor ER Ejercito, has passed away at the age of 55. The news of her passing was confirmed by her husband through a social media post on Sunday, revealing that she succumbed to endometrial cancer.

Maita, born Girlie Javier, leaves behind her husband and their six children: Eric, Jet, Jerico, Jhulia, Diego, and Gabriela. The wake, accompanied by a daily mass at 7 p.m., will take place from November 3 to 9 at their ancestral home in Pagsanjan, Laguna. The Ejercito family has asked for prayers and mass offerings in her honor.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God. Rest in peace,” ER Ejercito expressed in his announcement.

Maita had a diverse career, appearing in films such as Pagbabalik ng Probinsyano, Ang Dalubhasa, and Batas ng Lansangan. She also ventured into politics, serving as the mayor of Pagsanjan, Laguna, for three terms starting in 2010, while her husband was the province’s governor. She later became vice mayor of Pagsanjan from 2019 to 2022 and ran for mayor again in May 2022 but was unsuccessful.
