Personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are contributing their “one meal” subsistence allowance to assist victims of Super Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon, also known as Habagat.
In a statement on Saturday, AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. announced that each member’s donation, equivalent to one meal from their subsistence allowance, amounts to P50 per person.
General Brawner emphasized that the AFP is continuously deploying search, rescue, and retrieval teams across Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and Northern Luzon to support ongoing relief and disaster response operations in the aftermath of Carina and the enhanced Habagat.
“This collective effort and selfless sacrifices reflect the AFP’s commitment to aiding those affected by this disaster, demonstrating solidarity and compassion during these challenging times,” Brawner stated.
The military’s response includes the Philippine Air Force’s rescue operations on Wednesday, which assisted 100 affected residents in Pasay City.
Torrential rains and floods have severely impacted multiple regions, resulting in 34 fatalities, according to figures released by the Philippine National Police on Friday.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has been actively inspecting and monitoring the progress of relief efforts in the affected areas, including a visit to Central Luzon on Saturday.
A state of calamity has been declared in Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas. Similar declarations have been made in Pinamalayan and Baco in Oriental Mindoro; San Andres in Romblon; Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental; and Kabacan and Pikit in Cotabato.
