Filipina tennis star Alex Eala has reached a new milestone in her young career, climbing to World No. 70 in the latest WTA rankings — her highest placement to date.
The 19-year-old made a significant jump from her No. 72 ranking on April 14, continuing her rapid rise after closing 2024 as World No. 143. Eala’s momentum was fueled by a breakthrough semifinal run at the Miami Open, where she stunned higher-ranked opponents and captured global attention.
Most recently, Eala competed in the Madrid Open, where she gave a tough fight before bowing out to World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the Round of 64 with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 2-6.
Now entering the top 70, Eala is set to carry her strong form into her main draw debut at Roland Garros later this month in Paris, a key stop in the Grand Slam calendar.
Aryna Sabalenka remains World No. 1, with Swiatek and Coco Gauff holding the second and third spots, respectively.
