Alex Gonzaga and her husband, Lipa City Councilor Mikee Morada, shared the devastating news of their third miscarriage, which occurred in December 2024.
In Toni Gonzaga’s latest vlog, Mikee revealed that the pregnancy was unplanned but came as a pleasant surprise. “To be honest, kami ni Catherine (Alex), noong nalaman namin na pregnant siya, hindi namin talaga akalain, wala kaming plano,” Mikee explained, adding that they initially considered preparing for an IVF process but wanted to try conceiving naturally again.
Complications and Heartbreak
After Alex experienced a delayed menstrual cycle, she took a pregnancy test, which confirmed their pregnancy. The couple regularly visited their OB/GYN for checkups, but their third visit brought devastating news—complications were discovered, and they were told it was a blighted ovum.
“Bumagsak ulit [yung pakiramdam namin], pero mas kaya compared doon sa una kasi nakailan na kami eh,” Mikee shared.
Seeking a second opinion, the couple visited another OB/GYN and were initially given hope when an ultrasound revealed a baby with a heartbeat.
“Naiyak ako noong narinig ko ‘yung heartbeat,” Mikee said. “First time kong nakarinig ng heartbeat.”
However, the joy was short-lived as the baby’s heartbeat was lower than normal, at only 65 beats per minute. The couple took immediate action, going to the hospital in hopes of saving their baby. Despite their efforts, they received confirmation on December 28 that the embryo no longer had a heartbeat.
A Painful Journey
This marks Alex and Mikee’s third miscarriage, following similar experiences in 2021 and 2023. Despite the heartbreak, Mikee expressed that these challenges have only strengthened their bond as a couple.
“At the end of the day, kahit anong mangyayari, biyayaan man tayo o hindi, kahit tayong dalawa lang magkasama, okay lang,” he said, addressing Alex.
The couple, who got engaged in January 2020 and married in November 2021, continue to support each other through their journey.
