Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo has filed her counter affidavit in response to a material misrepresentation case against her, just in time for the final deadline set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed Guo’s submission on September 12, following the partial granting of her second motion for an extension.
Garcia clarified that Guo is not being singled out, as several other former candidates are also facing misrepresentation charges. Guo’s legal team had faced challenges in communicating with her and obtaining her affidavit signature, which led to the extensions.
Guo is also facing other legal battles, including charges related to human trafficking, money laundering, and a graft case in connection with raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hubs in Bamban and Porac. She returned to the Philippines on September 6 after being on the run since July, despite being placed on an immigration watchlist.
